Wikis!!

Oh the wiki! I cant say I'm a big fan! Whilst I'm happy to admit it does have some learning capabilities for students, I don't like the fact the person editing or adding to the wiki can have anonymity. Having anonymity means that anyone can write something productive or unproductive and not have to take ownership for their actions and ideas. This could create problems such as bullying amongst students.

When it comes to using a wiki for my subjects area's (art and ICT) I think it would be a great place to post and share information found on the internet. The ability to format, write and edit the HTML embedded in the wiki would also provide ICT student's with an easy way to explore how HTML can change the usability and appearance of a website.

I don't feel that a wiki should be used unsupervised by students. Students could easily go "off track" exploring links unless a specific topic and goal have been specified by the teacher. I would recommend that all students are taught the etiquette's of posting information and thoughts online before engaging in a Wiki learning activity.

Below is a brief PMI I created on the topic.
