Weebly Dweeb

Weebly!, Where have you been all my life?

I just love this tool! The simple drag and drop boxes make it easy to create a web page which is both professional and functional. It does come with limitations such as image size upload, but this is a cruical element when designing websites. While studying my degree in Computer Based Design we were always told to KISS (keep it simple stupid), weebly makes this easy by limiting image size and constraining dimensions of text, this keeps the website load time at a minimum. An important thing to remember when designing sites is that you only have (on average) 3 seconds to grab the viewer, or in this case the learner.

Check out my Weebly

Weebly for my students

The beauty of Weebly is that creators can make as many pages as they like. This would be a usefull tool in the classroom as the student could make a page for each subject. For example - John Does Weebly page could have a home page linking to his work for SOSE, Maths and English which each have their own pages.

I was drawn to Weebly because of the HTML editing tool. As an ICT teacher its important to show my students the basics before they progress further. When I started my degree in design "the basics" meant going into notepad, writing simple HTML scripting then selecting to view it as a web page. With Weebly the viewing of your web page is instant. This creates more spare time to work on coding rather than design elements.
