SWOT's and such

Going over my activities this week I realised I had made a terrible mistake! I missed week 3's activities!!! How could I have possibly done this? I have put this down to my learning styles :). I now know, well and truly that I'm somewhat of a sporadic learner. I do not think in lines or in terms of week to week, step one to ten, I have a habit of jumping back and forth! I have been told this is not a weakness but makes me a great multi-tasker, hopefully this is true and not all hope is lost. So I sat down and (reluctantly) started again from week one. I came across an earlier activity in which we were to outline the positives and negatives of Blogs in teaching. I was going to draw my own as I feel I have not utilised my web and graphic design skills very much at all this year but then I came across Gliffy. I cant say the whole experience was enjoyable but I still found it a rather useful tool besides the fact that it is rather "clunky" and restrictive.

I settled on a SWOT analysis for the purpose of this activity. I found the strengths and weaknesses fairly easy to complete but the opportunities and threats took a little more brain work than I first expected. Overall I think Blogs are a great pedagogical tool, they offer a higher level of thinking, research and communication. Of course with all ICT's they should be used under the direction and supervision of a teacher so that the correct learning outcomes are achieved. Its all very well to have all the latest "wizz bang" tools and technology but if they aren't enhancing a child's learning experience they are useless! So, user.... BEWARE.
